About Perfectly Me

Perfectly Me is a community where kids can embrace their inner superhero and develop their skills in kindness, leadership, and resilience. Founded in Baltimore in 2007, Perfectly Me offers in-school and after school clubs, as well as full day camps during school holiday periods that allow kids to have fun and develop their ‘HeroValues’, all while exploring their passion in sports, science, art, and more.

Our Founder, Raquel Gilmer, launched Perfectly Me while on her own journey to self-love and acceptance after struggling during her childhood and teen years with being teased and low self-esteem. Inspired by her own experience, she created Perfectly Me as a way to help kids embrace what makes them unique and develop the social skills needed to build friendships. With her extensive background in education and community development, she and her team have built an expertly-crafted program curriculum with real benefit for kids and their families.

Meet the team at Perfectly Me

Raquel Gilmer

Perfectly Me Founder

I am passionate about this work
because I’m a mom and I want my son to be a superhero and great human. And I know this isn’t going to be easy but I feel more confident because I’ve got my Perfectly Me Team and my superhero crew fighting along-side me, the Perfectly Me SuperHeroes.

Program Manager

Working with Perfectly Me offers me the opportunity to work with children, helping them to discover their superpowers and supporting them using their superpowers in positive ways. I am most proud of my ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with children and their parents.

Camp Program Developer

I joined the Perfectly Me team, because I want to help other girls find their superpowers earlier than I did. I want both of my children - but especially my daughter, who is about to start middle school - to be as healthy and loving to themselves as possible so when others are not so kind, they can turn up their own superpowers and shine bright!

Lead Camp Coordinator

I joined Perfectly Me because I felt like the mission embodied some of my passion for building a better next generation. It creates the perfect avenue for instilling children with values
that leave their communities better than they found it and help them understand how their behavior impacts others.
Sometimes kids just need a creative way to bring out the best in themselves and we’re here to help them.

inspire, connect, and empower others.

The team

Our Perfectly Me Superhero Squad

Raquel created the Perfectly Me Squad of superheroes ten years ago as a way of talking about issues of self-esteem and compassion in a way that is relatable, playful, and designed to tell stories that resonate with kids hearts. Our squad of superheroes have strengths that can change the world - like kindness, courage, compassion, strength, and resilience. These are the supervalues we encourage kids to enhance in our programs. But these skills need practice and we provide the environment where kids can train their supervalues and practice emotional resilience in a safe and supporting setting.

We have three superhero groups in our universe – the Perfectly Me Squad, Captain Kid Kindness and his Kindness Crew, and the Awesome Perfectly Me Girls. And just like in comic books, our superheroes face challenges. our books, videos, and other resources to help spark kids’ imagination.

Join our team and change the world with Perfectly Me

What families are saying about Perfectly Me Camps

Our recent camp evaluation by Dr. Klein-Cox of Engage with Data, showed that children in Perfectly Me camps respond well to our superhero curriculum, improving their behaviors and social skills at home. Families said that their kids had better emotional resilience and were more helpful at home and in their community. On average, ratings increased by 13 percentage points from the pre-survey to post-survey.

The greatest improvements were found in the following ways:
   1. Kids treated others the way they want to be treated;
   2. Kids were better at waiting for what they want;
   3. Kids made more effort to help out at home; and
   4. Kids expressed more willingness to do good in their community.

Focus group participants said that their children benefited from SuperHero Camp, with improvements in behavior, ability to self-reflect, and their social skills.
